News in brief - November 19th & 20th 2008

A Great Grey Shrike, a Slavonian Grebe, a Great Northern Diver and a Long-tailed Duck remained in Staffordshire where two Scaup and over 50 Pink-footed Geese were also noted. A Red-crested Pochard was a new arrival in Worcestershire where a Common Scoter and Crossbills remained. Five Great Northern Divers remained in Warwickshire where a Hen Harrier, a Shag, a Red-breasted Merganser, a Common Scoter and five White-fronted Geese were logged while two Greater Scaup were accompanied by a possible Lesser Scaup.

A Hen Harrier was seen again in Shropshire where a Bittern was present and in Gloucestershire, a Bearded Tit was discovered and three Short-eared Owls remained.

A Slavonian Grebe was noted in Leicestershire along with two Snow Buntings and an Iceland Gull, while a Glaucous Gull, a Caspian Gull, a Waxwing and a Firecrest were seen in Northamptonshire with another Waxwing in Nottinghamshire. Two Great Northern Divers, a Common Scoter and a Long-eared Owl were noted in Oxfordshire.
